SPARX QUARTET

Lead Paula Hoffman serves as the Visual Performance Coordinator and Education Program Coordinator for the Battle Creek Chorus.  She has been active in Sweet Adeline choruses and quartets for twenty years, singing in the Water Wonderland, Voices in Harmony and Spirit of Detroit choruses where she joined them at the International competition in Hawaii. Her quartets include High Fidelity, Belle Chords, Sidekicks Mixed Quartet, and Sparx. Paula is a 33 year special education teacher, with 29 of those years at Grand Ledge High School.  She is married to Mike and lives in Charlotte.

Bass Lynne Peirce has served as the director of the Battle Creek Chorus since 2017.  She previously directed the Voices in Harmony Sweet Adelines Chorus for 13 years and spent five years with the Pioneer District champion Huron Valley Harmonizers Chorus of the Barbershop Harmony Society.  A Sweet Adeline since 1985, Lynne sang bass in the 1991 and 1993 champion quartet Accolade, delighted audiences for nearly 20 years in comedy quartet Novelty Shop, and won a first place quartet championship in 2015 with daughter Sara Clevenger with the ever-popular Surefire quartet. Lynne is a retired organizational development specialist with the University of Michigan Health System and lives in Ann Arbor with her cardigan Welsh corgi puppy, Lily.

Baritone Judy Burgess serves the Battle Creek Chorus as baritone section leader and Team Coordinator.  A member of Sweet Adelines since 2018, she quickly jumped into (and fell in love with) quarteting with her first quartet, Dazzle.  Judy's extensive music background began at a very young age singing in a trio with her sisters, and with formal training in piano, guitar and percussion.  Her singing continued through 20 years in the Classic Chorale in Oxford, MI as well as touring across Europe with Musical Youth international.  A jeweler in her family's business for 22 years, Judy has been an educator for the past 22 years, currently serving as lead interventionist and librarian for Bellevue schools and where she lives with husband Bill and their two dogs.

Tenor Mary Su serves as Member Relations Coordinator for Motor City Blend Chorus.  In 2022, she sang on the international stage in Phoenix where MCB took 8th place.   She has been active in Sweet Adelines for 21 years, singing in Voices in Harmony chorus, Another Round Quartet and Swing Sisters Quartet.  She is a certified director in Sweet Adelines, and was an assistant director for 4 years for Voices in Harmony.  Before that, she sang in an a capella chorus in Virginia that focused on the wonderful sounds of the big band era in glorious eight part harmony.  Mary raised two children, homeschooling her daughter for 8 years, and now is enjoying the thrill of an almost empty nest in Dexter where she lives with husband Bill, daughter Theresa and two guinea pigs.
