OUR DIRECTORS -- Battle Creek Sweet Adelines Chorus is blessed to have the leadership two outstanding professionals:  Mary Su,  Certified Director of the Chorus; Julie Zehnder, Certified Harmony 500 Director, proudly serving as the Associate Director of the Chorus. 

Mary Su became the musical director of Battle Creek Chorus in December of 2023. She has been a Sweet Adeline for over twenty years and currently sings with Motor City Blend Chorus in Region 2, the 8th place International Finalists in 2022. She also sings tenor in Sparx Quartet, a registered quartet in BHS and SAI.

Mary became a certified director in 2013, while an assistant director of the Voices in Harmony Chorus. She also served on the music team of VIH as tenor section leader for five years, and served on the Board of Directors for Motor City Blend as the Chorus Relations chair for two years.

Mary lives in Dexter, Michigan, with her husband, Bill, and daughter Theresa.

Julie Zehnder recently celebrated 59 years with Sweet Adelines this year and was the Director of BCC - SA for 38 years.   She formerly served as the Directors’ Liaison for Region 17 under the Education Committee. The Chorus Director Liaison communicates educational needs, and goals of the front-line chorus directors, assistant directors and associate directors within the region with the Regional Education Director and Education Resource Staff. Julie brings much experience and passion to all she does.
